About Our College

Government T.D. Medical College, Alappuzha, established in 1963, is one of Kerala’s oldest and most prestigious medical institutions. Founded under the patronage of the Thirumala Devaswom (T.D.) Temple and the initiative of visionary philanthropist Sri N. V. Prabhu, it was the first medical college in Kerala to be established under private management. The foundation stone was laid on 6 March 1963, and the first batch of 50 MBBS students began their academic journey in August of the same year. Facing financial challenges, the institution was taken over by the Government of Kerala in 1972, marking the beginning of its transformation into a premier government medical college. Spread across a sprawling campus at Vandanam, the college has grown into a leading centre for medical education, research, and tertiary healthcare. Today, affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), Government T.D. Medical College continues its legacy of excellence by training generations of healthcare professionals while providing comprehensive, compassionate care to patients from Alappuzha and neighbouring districts.
